Road Safety Audit Start Program

After conducting more than 600 road safety audits all over the world, we noticed that everybody agrees road safety audits are a good idea. However, some agencies are having trouble getting started or have historically done road safety audits on a very ad-hoc basis.

Fireseeds North has introduced the road safety audit start bundle to help agencies get off the ground with road safety audits. The bundle includes the following:

Training: We provide a 1-hour workshop for a broad audience at your agency to cover what road safety audits are and how to best use them. Additionally, your agency will receive 10 vouchers for 50% off the in-depth Road Safety Audits Primer Course taught by Dr. Craig Milligan through the Global Road Safety Academy.
Program and Policy Development: We will conduct a business process mapping exercise to identify how road safety is currently integrated into your project development cycle. This will reveal opportunities for leveraging road safety audits in ways that work for your agency. Working with your staff, we will develop an actionable road safety audit program and and road safety audit policy to use for your first few years. These documents will identify road safety audit roles, responsibilities, budgets, and road safety audit triggers such as project type or size.
Actual Road Safety Audits. We will conduct at least two road safety audits on a collaborative basis with your agency staff to complete the initial learning experience. Ideally one of these will be a design stage audit and one will be an in-service audit. We will conduct a debrief of these audits, and learnings from the debrief will shape the final version of the road safety audit program and policy development.

Craig has seen road safety audits save lives all over the world and wants more DOTs to benefit from road safety audits in a structured and intentional way.

Please note that we can take on a maximum of one more start engagement in 2026 and a maximum of 3 in 2027. We do this work on a direct award basis only with DOTs that want to leverage our pioneering leadership in the road safety audit field (no open bids for the start program).
