 What is Continuous Safety Monitoring?

Continuous safety monitoring is a Miovision technology that measures near-misses on a permanent and continual basis at intersections equipped with 360 degree cameras and a Miovision Core device in the traffic signal cabinet.

It enables a brand new, iterative approach to continuous improvement of intersection safety. You can investigate problems at any time with detailed diagnosis, implement ideas for safety improvements, and immediately measure safety improvements to inform your next course of action.

Why Start with a CONTINUOUS safety monitoring Implementation PROJECT?

It can be challenging to decide where to apply the technology first, how to interpret the data, and how to adapt established road safety business processes to a brand new data source and road safety management paradigm. An implementation project provides guided expert support to address these challenges.

WHAT DOES A CONTINUOUS SAFETY MONITORING IMPLEMENTATION project INvolve?

Our implementation scope is flexible but we recommend the following:

• Assistance with selection of 5 to 10 initial locations for installation of equipment and application.

• Training workshop on real data once dashboards are live

• Interpretation memo report containing diagnostic summary and recommended safety improvements for each initial location

• Review of road safety management business processes and memo on recommended adaptations to the road safety management approach for leveraging the new technology.

• Budget and business case development for wider-scale deployment of continuous safety monitoring.

Our principal, Craig Milligan, co-led the development of the Miovision’s continuous safety monitoring application while temporarily working at there as a senior product manager. Developing this technology was the main strategic objective driving Miovision’s acquisition MicroTraffic, the video analytics technology developed by Craig and Fireseeds North. After successfully launching the continuous version of the technology on Miovision’s platform, Craig has returned to consulting.
