Road Safety Management Systems

what is a road safety management system?

A road safety management system is the set of tools and business processes used by an agency to realize its road safety objectives in a systematic and sustainable manner.

The Transportation Association of Canada, the US National Academies, and the International Organization for Standardization all have defined frameworks for road safety management systems.

Fireseeds North has performed management system gap analysis and program development / design for a variety of transportation agencies in Canada. It always results in clearly defined needs, business processes, roles, responsibilities, and resource requirements. In some cases, our engagements have led to the development of new positions and administrative branches within an agency. The result is an intentionally designed system with input from all stakeholders, and an improved change of realizing agency objectives.

To request a road safety management system gap analysis or to scope a system design engagement, contact Fireseeds North: craig.milligan@fireseedsnorth.ca or 204-996-9550.

To make systematic and sustained progress on road safety, a well-designed road safety management system is essential. A gap analysis by a consultant or a system design engagement can go a long way towards establishing an effective road safety management system.
